France has won the 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup in Russia. It is the second title for Les Bleus after beating Croatia 4-2.
The six-goal thriller saw three goals apiece in each half. Croatia having dominated possession, looked out of the game by the 69th minute when Kylian Mbappe scored the fourth for France.
While the Croatian players may be the most hurt over the defeat, they are not the only ones crying at the moment.
One Ghanaian who had so much belief in the Croats is among the chief mourners as he has reportedly lost GHC10,000 over the defeat.
The yet-to-be-identified loser staked the GHC10,000 in a bet on Sunday morning, just a few hours before the match.
With 1.92 odds, the bet was to bring a return of GHC9,200 if Croatia had avoided defeat within 90 minutes.
But it was not to be as France 'spoilt his bet' and a photo of the bet slip has been trending online.
"We need men like this to lead the Ghana Army. HEH!!! which kind bravery," Francis Kisserh said as he posted the photo of the slip on Facebook.
This was the mood before the game but when it started looking like France was going to win, many people questioned the sense in the bet.
Alberta thought the bet was not sensible
Lambert would have done it
And Sultan likened the bet to a bad investment
France's win is the second in their history and makes tbeir coach Didier Deschamps only the third person to win the World Cup as a player and a coach.
