Boxing legend, Azumah Nelson, has narrated how the former president, Jerry Rawlings, helped him make his career a success during its earlier stages.
Azumah Nelson narrated how the former president was 'extremely close' to him to ensure he succeeded in every strand of his career.
In an interview with Citi TV, Azumah Nelson shared fond memories of how Rawlings even swept his room after his bouts.

“When I was amateur, he was taking care of us, and we were supposed to go to World Olympic games, there was one guy in the military who was American and he was always beating his opponents, he always took the Gold. But Rawlings realized I could beat that guy
Rawlings came around when we trained at Volunteer force, he comes there every day, sometimes when we finished training, he will sweep the place for us, he didn’t want us to do anything. He will clean all the rooms. He would then bring food for us, beans and other things. Since then we became friends”.
One of the biggest symbols of Ghana’s fourth republic is Jerry John Rawlings. The former president played a major role in returning Ghana to democratic rule. Rawlings goes down as the longest-serving president in the history of Ghana, having been head of state for 19 years.
These days the retired flight lieutenant may have been caught up by old age, however, in his youthful days, he was very vibrant and a firebrand.
