Mahama’s ‘political greenhorns’ caused NDC's defeat – Bagbin

- Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has blamed John Mahama for NDC's 2016 defeat

- The NDC man believes Mahama and his 'inexperienced' appointees caused the election misfortunes of the party

A top ranking member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has attributed the 2016 general election defeat of the NDC to Former President Mahama.

According to Bagbin, the former NDC leader, John Mahama surrounded himself with ‘political greenhorns’ and ruined the fortunes of the NDC at an election year.

Speaking exclusively to Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, insisted that 'immature Mahama appointees' used insults to cut off the president away from the experience elders of the NDC.

“A sheep had led a pride of NDC lions into defeat because the President had surrounded himself with disrespectful political greenhorns who insulted everybody and cut him off from the leadership of the party,” Bagbin said.

The Nadowli/Kaleo legislator maintained that President Mahama with the spirit of a sheep turned blind eye and led a group of lions to defeat in the 2016 general election.

The top NDC man argued that, he is poised to correct all mistakes committed by former President Mahama, and offer quality leadership to the NDC with united front into the 2020 election.

“Former President Mahama had led the country without the party. The evidence is clear, even our respected founder who is revered even by our opponents was eventually estranged from his own baby. Ask yourself, what could ever make a mother abandon her own child? It should tell you that President Rawlings was really pushed away,” Mr Bagbin said.

The politician also alleged that the NDC failed woefully in power under Mahama because the government which abandoned the party, also abandoned the pillars of NDC's style of politics.

“As a party, we have been so unfair to our own media. My heart bleeds that we had been in power for eight years and it was under our reign that our own newspapers, such as The Enquirer and the Palaver collapsed.Today, where is The Republic, where is The Ghanaians Voice? Even Montie is struggling to come back on air,” Alban Bagbin lamented.

Mr Bagbin added that one of the woes of the NDC was because it allowed the NPP to capture and control the media landscape and all other important media outlet.

“It is not that we do not have technocrats in the NDC, we have, but the NPP attracts more. And even the ones that we have, we are pushing them away because we think politics is a matter of charity,” he said.
