- NDC is to organize a massive demonstration against Akufo-Addo for dismissing EC boss
- The opposition party is accusing the NPP government of an attempts to rig the 2020 election
The leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), have served noticed that they are about to hit the streets in a massive demonstration against the Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP), administration.
According to the NDC, the party is currently preparing for the funeral and burial service of the late Vice President, Amissah-Arthur after which, it will give President Akufo-Addo a ‘show down’ over the removal of EC boss, Charlotte Osei.
In a statement issued and signed by Mr Kofi Portuphy, the National Chairman, the NDC warned that the NPP government will not be allowed to get away with the ‘shameful’ removal of Madam Charlotte Osei.
“Akufo- Addo and his collaborators will not be allowed to get away with the premeditated, cynical and shameful subterfuge to subvert the electoral process and undermine the growth of our democracy,” the NDC said in a statement signed by its National Chairman.
Mr Kofi Portuphy argued that the leadership of the NDC have been monitoring closely the widespread condemnation, outrage and general agitation over NPP’s machinations at the Electoral Commission, and they will not rest until the right is done.
The opposition NDC in the statement accused President Akufo-Addo of abuse constitutional processes with the sole objective of manipulating the 2020 electoral process.
The NDC National Chairman, therefore, vowed in the statement to fight back the NPP in any deliberate attempts to impose new Electoral Commissioner on Ghana’s election body.
President Akufo-Addo recently dismissed Madam Charlotte Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwaah for “misbehaviour and incompetence.”
The president’s decision followed a recommendation made by a committee instituted by the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo to investigate all corruption allegations and misconduct leveled against the three top officials of the EC.
Madam Charlotte Osei in a statement later, suggested that her dismissal was as a result of 'relentless attacks’ against her over the past three years.
Meanwhile, the sacked EC boss appears to be enjoying massive support from the opposition NDC party, who believe her sacking was premeditated and a calculated attempt by the NPP to rig the next general election.
