Manchester United are the second most valuable sport franchise in the world

- Manchester United have climbed to the second position on Forbes list of most valuable sport franchise

- The Red Devils' stock rose by 12% according to the business news outlet

- They made some money selling jerseys during the recently concluded FIFA World Cup in Russia

Premier League giants Manchester United are the second most valuable sport franchise in the world according to reports from Forbes.

The Red Devils are currently valued at £3.16 billion following the 12 per cent growth from what they were valued at last year.

American football team Dallas Cowboys are the only team valued more than the Old Trafford club at £3.67 billion.

The business news outlet stated in their latest report that current Champions League winners Real Madrid (£3.13bn) have overtaken their Spanish League arch rivals Barcelona (£3.11bn) as the third most valued club.

America's baseball team New York Yankees - who were the second most valuable franchise in 2017 - are fifth with value of £3.06bn.

The recently concluded World Cup in Russia was said to have contributed towards United's, Real's and Barca's positions in the rankings.

Massive shirt sales and sponsorship of their club's in Russia have put money in their pockets, as seven European football clubs make up the top 50 in Forbes' list.

German League giants Bayern Munich (£2.35bn) are 12th on the log, while Premier League champions Manchester City (£1.89bn), Arsenal (£1.71bn) and Chelsea (£1.58bn) come in at 30th, 39th and 46th respectively.

Record-breaking Premier League champions City recorded the largest growth out of any club in the top 50 with 19 per cent.
