Respected Fante rapper, Kofi King Arthur, widely known as Kofi Kinaata, has sent a word of advice to young and talented Ghanaian artiste, Kuami Eugene.
According to the rapper, the sensational artiste must concentrate and stay original with his brand and music career.
It could be recalled that Kuami Eugene was accused of plagiarizing his ‘Confusion’ song which took over Ghana music industry days after being released.
Some Ghanaian critics who have been monitoring the music industry revealed Kuami Eugene sampled his 'Confusion' hit song from a Malian singer, Sidiki Diabate, released back in 2015.
However, the ‘Angela’ hit-maker, seems to have made another media headlines for ‘dabbing’ the lyrics of Nigerian rapper, Ice Prince for his new single ‘Wish Me Well’.
But Kofi Kinaata speaking on Takoradi-based Connect FM, as monitored by 3news.com advised Eugene to try as much as he can to stay original with all his songs.
“Sometimes it is just by coincidence; you know, like they say, great minds think alike. So it is possible to say things similar to what others may have said in the past without knowing,” the rapper said.
The Takoradi-based artiste admitted that Kuami Eugene is talented by all standard, but he can’t simply fathom why issues of plagiarism keeps hitting him in recent times.
“If the same accident happens twice consecutively, it’s got to be intentional,” Kofi Kinaata known for his sarcasm, jovially said.
The ‘Fante Rap God’ in his interaction explained that it is always pardonable to sample old popular songs because the source and composers are known.
But he finds it insulting to the intelligence of music fans to discreetly scavenge other people’s music and present it as original.
“If we do not know the song, it is hiding in an obscure corner, and it has to take some people to hunt for the original composers, then that is a clear insult to our intelligence and an attempt to look sharp,” the rapper said.
