The issue generating all the rightful condemnation social media right now is that of a police officer caught on video beating a nursing mother. Very few people find justification for this and the anger is widespread. But it has got people asking further questions.
Ghanaians have taken to social media to voice their displeasure with a police officer physically assaulting a woman. The woman is unidentified but YEN.com.gh's check reveal that the officer is Frederick Amanor.
The little information provided for context is that the woman went to a branch of Midlands Savings and Loans to withdraw money. The officer prevented her because the office had apparently closed.
The escalation of emotions afterwards led to an officer of the law brutally assaulting a nursing mother. Ghanaians of good will are angry but not everyone is surprised.
Many have spoken of how they have seen or been victims of police officers abusing their power. The common sentiment being shared it that the recent issue is not a one-off.
Some have gone further, even asking if it is time for Ghanaians to start videoing their encounters with the police.
Some are even expressing frustration with the justice system.
There is definitely a lot of mistrust that requires a careful approach to solving. If we do not do this things might degenerate into a worse situation.
