- Embattled Kennedy Agyapong has denied ever describing the House as "useless"
- The Assin Central MP however apologised to the House when he appeared before Parliament’s Privileges Committee
Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has apologized to Parliament over alleged contemptuous statements he made against the House.
The outspoken lawmaker was dragged before Parliament’s Privileges Committee by Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, over certain comments he made.
Mr. Agyapong was reported to have described Parliament as “useless and cheap” during one of his rants on radio.
Although the MP denied using the word 'useless', he nevertheless rendered an apology to his colleague Parliamentarians for his outbursts.
Appearing before Parliament’s Privileges Committee on Monday, July 23, 2018, Mr. Agyapong said he rather used the word “cheap” and not “useless” as he had been accused of.
“I don’t mind retracting that word [cheap] but I want to say that I never said parliament was useless," he said, adding that: “I’m not a tin god.”
“You can kill me today but I will never admit that I said that parliament is useless,” he further stressed.
He explained that he could not control his anger because the Ashanti Regional Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Nsenkyire had insulted him [Agyapong], claiming that he was not fit to be an MP.
According to the MP, his leader (Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu) also joined in the fray and that irked him, causing his rant.
