- FRuff Town Record's Wendy Shay has opened up on the origin of her stage name
- According to her, the name was from a kids’ TV series she used to watch as a child
Latest Ruff Town Records darling girl, Wendy Shay, known in real life as Wendy Abena Ofosuhemaa Asiamah Addo has opened up on the reason she decide to choose a foreign stage name despite the many options available to her.
Speaking in an interview with Abeiku Santana on UTV’s ‘Atuu’ Show, the ‘Uber Driver’ singer revealed that the name Shay was from a kid’s programme which aired on TV called iCarly.
She said that her dad died when she was two-years-old and had to relocate to Germany with her mother and younger sister.
The Bedroom Commando’ singer added that she fell in love with the main character of iCarly, called Carly Shay known in real life as Miranda Cosgrove, leaving her with no option than to adopt that name to christen herself Wendy Shay.
In the wide-ranging interview, Wendy Shay revealed that only a few people knew her real name since many people referred to her as Wendy Shay.
She added that she received her education in Germany and went through the ransk to pass out as a professional nurse but now pursues a career in music.
Not too long ago, YEN.com.gh sighted a video of Wendy Shay’s younger sister dancing to her latest song, ‘Bedroom Commando’ and fans applauded her slick dance moves.
Wendy Shay has taken the music industry in Ghana by storm after she was signed by late Ebony Reigns’ manager, Bullet.
She has been touted by many as the perfect replacement of the late 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards ‘Artiste of the Year’ winner, Ebony.
Some people have actually indicated that late Ebony and Wendy Shay bear some resemblance after comparing pictures of the two singers.
Wendy Shay has made massive ways with her song, ‘Uber Driver’ having reached over 1 million views on YouTube.
Just like her predecessor, Wendy Shay has attracted her own share of criticisms. She has been accused of not changing her wig for some months running.
Others have also alleged that the singer was dating O’Gee, one of the hype men at Ruff Town Records. In responding to this, the singer shared pictures with her real boyfriend to shut her critics up.
The singer has also received her share of prophecies after a prophet revealed that if she was not careful, she was going to be laid in state in a nurse’s uniform.
