Chelsea have completed the signing of veteran goalkeeper Robert Green on a free transfer after spending last season with Huddersfield Town.

The former England international will serve as back up for Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero in between the sticks.

The 38-year-old who signed one year contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit said: "It has been a whirlwind 24 hours.

"You are thinking about your career and where you want to go and then you get a phone call like this, and it is a short conversation.

"It has been a pretty dramatic time for me and I can’t wait to get started. I am absolutely delighted and it is a thrill and an honour to be here."

Green may play in some cup competitions as he waits for a game behind Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero, who are currently the Blues number one and two.

He began his career at Norwich City and made over 200 appearances for the Canaries before the Hammers signed him in 2006.

After six years at Upton Park Green moved across London to QPR for a further four seasons in the Championships.

Green left Loftus Road in 2016 to spend a year with Leeds before heading to Huddersfield Town 12 months ago.
