- Chief Biney is an outspoken member of the communications team of the NDC
- He is of the view that it is only fair to ask of the NPP what they did of the NDC in 2015
A member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is asking if the governing New Patriotic Party can prove the appointment of Mrs. Jean Mensa as Chairperson for Electoral Commission (EC) was not based on a 'body for the job' scheme.
The member, Chief Biney, is an outspoken member of the opposition's communications team. Per the reports on Mynewsgh.com, Biney explained that his question targeted a logic defended by Assin Central legislator, Kennedy Agyapong.
After Charlotte Osei was appointed as EC boss in 2015, Agyapong and some other members of the NPP insinuated that the appointment was based on her looks. They went ahead to suggest that then President John Mahama had his way with the former EC boss in exchange.
Biney, in a television discussion programme orgininally reported on by the above named source, it was only prudent for the opposition to ask the same questions of the NPP as some of their members did of the NDC.
He agreed that although it was unfair to suggest that, he felt that it was unfortunate for the NPP to gone down that road.
He believed that the likes of Otiko Afisa Djaba should have risen above reproach in this regard; Afisa Djaba is a self-professing feminist and currently Ghana's Minister of Gender and Children affairs.
Biney also expressed the view that the NPP was repeating a mistake that NDC did in appointing Charlotte Osei.
The NDC communicator said that he hoped the worst would not happen as a result of the lack of consultation in appointing Ms Jean Mensa.
