Lance Corporal Frederick Amanor, also known as Skalla, was caught on camera last Friday beating a nursing mother. In court on Thursday morning he pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault.
The incident created serious dissatisfaction among the Ghanaian populace. Some even went as far as to question whether it was time for Ghanaians to start videoing their interactions with the police.
Speaking to Accra-based Peace FM after the incident, the victim identified herself as Patience. On that fateful day, she had decided to not leave the halls of Midlands after being excused away on previous days on the reason of bad network.
Patience was at the institution to withdraw an amount of GHc 270. On their part, Midlands Savings and Loans Company released statements to their side of the story.
Midlands, perhaps in hope of a better public relations, offered a compensation to the victim and indicated they were conducting their investigations into the incident.
The internet service providers of Midlands, K-Net have also denied the possibility their clients could have faced internet disruptions during the period under question.
So far, by the count of journalist Saddick Addams, the victim has received over GHc 40,000 in goodwill gestures.
