Atletico Madrid boss Simeone says 'Messi is better than Ronaldo'

- Diego Simeone clarifies his position in the never ending debate of who is better between Messi and Ronaldo

- Both players have ten ballon d'Or awards as they have dominated world football in the last decade

- Simeone slight tilts toward his Argentine countryman as a better player than his Portuguese rival

The last has not been heard of the debate between Lionel Messi and his arch rival Cristiano Ronaldo even after the Portugal star has joined Juventus.

Both players have shared between themselves 10 ballon d'Or awards since the first time Ronaldo won it in 2008 while at Manchester United.

The pair have also dominated world football by helping their various clubs win accolades at the club level in the last five to six years.

However, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone was dragged into the conversation earlier this year when his discussion with his assistant made it to media space after Croatia hammered Argentina 3-0 in Russia.

In that coversation, the Argentine born tactician appeared to suggest Simeone is more of a fan of Ronaldo than Messi.

But, he has now come out to clarify his statement on the debate, saying: "If I had to choose between Messi and Ronaldo then most likely I would choose Messi," Simeone said.

"Yes I said [Ronaldo] on the video, but the conversation was between me and [Atleti assistant] German Burgos, talking about football as everyone talks about it.

"When I talked about Messi and Ronaldo it wasn't from the perspective of who is the best in the world.

"I just meant that if you have the chance to sign one of them for a normal club, with normal players, Ronaldo would probably fit in better.

"But with Messi, surrounded by great players, Messi is better than Ronaldo."

Ronaldo will campaign in the Italian League this season as he joined the Turin based side this summer while he takes part in his first training session with Juve later today.

Douglas Costa, Mario Mandzukic and Gonzalo Higuain are also on hand for the session, which will not be open to the public.
