Mahama wins 94 out of 100 votes to contest 2020 elections

- Majority of NDC MPs have voted for Mahama to be the presidential candidate for the NDC

- The voting sheet shows that Mahama won 94 out of 100 votes

- So far, the decision of Mahama to contest the 2020 elections is still not known

Former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, is reported to have been massively endorsed by members of parliament under the party.

Details of the votes show that 94 out of 106 NDC legislators want the former president to contest the 2020 elections.

Adomfmonline is reporting that these MPs have subsequently formed a support group called MPS4JM (Members of Parliament for John Mahama).

One such legislator, Dr. Clement Apaak, says it would be politically dangerous for NDC MPs not to endorse Mahama.

“My constituents told me that if you are going to re-contest, then you must do so with your father otherwise forget,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, some members of parliament under the NDC say they mistook the voting sheet for an attendance sheet. According to them, most of them never resolved to vote for Mahama especially when most of their devotion was with other presidential aspirants including the former rector of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA).

“I was very furious because they deceived me to signing something I don’t believe in. I have endorsed Alban Bagbin and I believe he is the right person to lead the NDC in 2020,” a member of parliament for Yunyoo constituency in the Northern region, Joseph Bipoba revealed.

As it stands now, the decision for Mahama to contest the 2020 elections is still unknown. Meanwhile, a closed-door meeting by ten regional chairmen of the party signed to approve Mahama as the presidential candidate for the NDC.

What this means is that John Dramani Mahama could be contesting the elections again. YEN.com.gh earlier reported of how John Mahama declined to state whether he will contest the elections or not. But Mahama's statement attracted disagreement from key party executives who say he is the best candidate for the party in 2020.
