A Nigerian man, Mohammed Abubakar, who got employed 24 years ago as an aircraft cleaner at Air Azman, has persevered and risen through the ranks to become a captain in the aviation industry.
When Mohammed Abubakar joined Azman Air Services Limited, Nigeria’s Kano-based domestic airline company over two decades ago, little did he imagine that he would ever become such a relevant person deserving of no less a position than a captain.
However, his perseverance and determination has paid off. He has been awarded his “fourth bar to become a captain”.
Photos and the success story of Mohammed Abubakar became viral on social media after a colleague of his posted them on twitter.
He captioned the photos: “He Joined the Aviation industry 24 years ago as Aircraft Cleaner. Today He is getting the Fourth Bar to becoming a CAPTAIN. Congratulations Mohammed Abubakar from all of us @AirAzman.”
Many people who saw the post were motivated and shared the story to encourage others not to give up on their dreams.
A Twitter user, @missabdulazeez, who saw the story wrote, "Wow... from Aircraft cleaner you said? This is the kind of inspirational stories I love to hear. Congratulations Captain Muhammad Abubakar."
Others who also wanted to be blessed with the same fate, asked if there were job openings for a cleaner or driver in the company.
Another user, @kola_maja commented, “Congratulations captain Mohammed Abubakar. You can become whatever u choose to be!”
Juliet also wrote, “Congratulations Mohammad.... lts never too late... Our dreams will always come through as long as we believe !!”
@SuoyoMcAaron in admonishing young dreamers wrote, "Congratulations. This is an inspiration to many aspiring young people out there, it doesn't matter how you start as far as your focused on where you're going..."
