- Some assembly members in the Berekum West District Assembly have returned bribes received from a DCE nominee who lost the position
- They reportedly took GHC2000 each from the nominee, Hon. Martin Adjei
Drama unfolded in the Berekum West District Assembly of the Brong Ahafo Region, as nine out of 27 assembly members returned GHC2000 taken from a disappointed District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee, Hon Martin Adjei.
According to a report by MyNewsGH.com, the monies were meant to obtain support the support and votes of the assembly members with regard to the position of DCE.
YEN.com.gh understands that Hon. Adjei obtained only 12 votes, representing 44.4% and 15 rejected votes representing 55.6%, and therefore failed to secure the slot.
He therefore demanded a refund of his money, and 9 have so far given theirs back to him.
Speaking on Angel Fm on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, the assemblyman for Jinijini, Hon Isaac Adjei confirmed that 9 of them have paid back the money they took from the nominee.
He also affirmed the amount paid to them was GH¢2,000 as reported earlier by the disappointed nominee.
