- Ghana beat Benin 3-1 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium
- The game was the first leg of the Africa Youth Championship qualifier
The Ghana national U-20 team reigned supreme over the U-20 team of Benin on Saturday at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
Ghana rallied from a goal down to thrash the Beninoise 3-1 in the first leg of the Africa Youth Championship qualifier (AYC).
Ghana playing at home failed to come to terms with the strategy of the away side – they failed to get the ball beyond the Benin back four.
However, against the run of play, Benin stunned Ghana by scoring the opening goal on the 24th minute. Allagbani Saliou took advantage of his side’s swift counter-attack to fire past Ghana’s shot stopper.
The former World Champions failed to restore parity as the first half was brought to an ended.
In the second half, Ghana intensified the pressure on Benin and their hard work paid off as Richard Danso pulled even for the home side on the 60th minute mark.
12 minutes later, captain Issahaku Konadu shot Ghana into the lead for the first time in Ghana.
With six minutes left on the clock, Ghana grabbed their third goal courtesy Richard Danso’s wonder strike.
Ghana will travel to Cotonou next week for the reverse fixture to decide which side will advance to the next stage of the qualifiers.
