Residents around the Asafo market in the Ashanti Region have been in a state of shock after a 19-year-old man fell from the 4th floor of a building.
Friends of the young man revealed to Abusua FM that the deceased had abused pills of Tramadol before meeting his death just when he was descending the stairs to buy some medicine for his sick friend.
According to them, the deceased together with his friends were squatters at the storey-building where the incident happened.
So far, the body of the deceased has been sent to the mortuary as the police begin investigations.
Drug abuse continues to be a threat to national security especially when most of the county's youth are now adopting some secret ways of concealing hard drugs.
The police service has revealed that many young drug addicts are now consuming these drugs by adding them in soups and stews according to some hard liquors.
Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Paul Awini, has revealed that this new culture of drug concealment, if not checked, could escalate in becoming a threat to national security.
“We all know people smoke wee so when you are standing from a distance, you can detect it and effect some arrests. The trend is changing and changing very fast. Now the wee and cocaine are put in alcoholic beverages , soups and stews and are consumed in huge quantities by our youth,” he lamented.
This revelation closely falls on the heels of the Tramadol scourge which has rocked every sector of the Ghanaian society. The consequences for taking Tramadol is deadly. In fact, doctors have revealed that abusers of the drug suffer dire side effects including kidney and liver damage and ultimately death.
So far, there has been a national campaign against the use of Tramadol. In fact, security experts fear the increase in the use of Tramadol has the impact of triggering cases of armed robbery and even terrorist attacks on the country.
