Jamaican retired sprinter and world record holder in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 4 × 100 meters relay Usain Bolt has joined Australian club Central Coast Mariners for indefinite training period.

Since the 31-year-old retired from sprinting, he has made it clear that his next career will be in football and he has been training with clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Mamelodi Sundowns FC.

Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners confirmed this latest development on social media.

"The Central Coast Mariners can today confirm that Usain Bolt has committed to an indefinite training period with the Club, with the aim to develop the ‘world’s fastest man’ into a professional footballer.

"The agreement between the Central Coast Mariners and Usain Bolt does not guarantee a professional playing contract but does provide the eight-time Olympic gold medallist with an opportunity to achieve his burning desire to play football professionally." the club said.

Bolt gained worldwide fame for his double sprint victory in world record times at the 2008 Beijing Olympics which made him the first person to hold both records since fully automatic time became mandatory.

He is the only sprinter to win Olympic 100 m and 200 m titles at three consecutive Olympics in 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how Usain Bolt held discussions with former Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson for the possibility of him to play for the Premier League campaigners.

The 31-year-old explained that he has told Sir Alex Ferguson to help him convince the management of the Red Devils for him to play at Old Trafford.
