You have to have attained a cut off point of 8 to qualify for this particular course.
BSc Renewable Energy Engineering
This course deals with combining the subjects of physics, chemistry and mathematics with other fundamental areas like environmental engineering and economic engineering. It is actually one of the recent disciplines of engineering that have been introduced. You get to learn about the energy field like learning things like efficiency, energy services and facility management.
BSc Mechanical Engineering
This field of engineering that has been taught for the longest time. It is also one of the broadest engineering course. It is the field where you combine some physics, mathematics and science to manufacture mechanical systems. You also learn how to maintain and analyze the systems. You have to have attained a cut off point of 9 to qualify for this particular course.
This is a degree course offered to persons who want to deal specifically with mathematics. It is important to note that this unit is actually offered in very few institutions and the University of Mines and Technology is one of them. You have to have attained a cut off point of 15 to qualify for this particular course.
Faculty of Mineral Resources Technology
BSc Minerals Engineering
Here you get to learn about the different minerals in the earth.
BSc Petroleum Engineering
In this course you get to learn about how you get to produce crude oil and also how you get to produce natural gas. You get to learn how to study the volume of the oil and gas that is recoverable using the skills of understanding the behavior of oil using physics principles. You have to have attained a cut off point of 6 to qualify for this particular course.
BSc Safety and Environmental Engineering

When you decide to pursue this course you are signing up to learn how to gather, sort process and ultimately deliver information about the geography. You also learn how to map. You have to have attained a cut off point of 10 to qualify for this particular course.
The university also offers a diploma programme namely;
Diploma in General Drilling
This diploma course falls in Geological Engineering. It is mainly taught to people who wish to become workers in mines. Graduates who make it through this two year course can eventually go and work in the hydro geological and Geo-technical fields. You can be part of the people who are hired by oil drilling firms to work in their sites.
Certificate in English
This is a mandatory course for all the people who wish to do any degree or diploma in the George Grant University of Mines and Technology. Even though you might have mastered the English language, you will be required to undertake this particular unit.

The post graduate courses offered are both at the PHD level and the Masters level.
The PHD postgraduate programme is available for; Mineral Engineering, Geological Engineering and Mining Engineering.
The Masters programme is available for;Electrical and Electronic Engineering , Mining Engineering, Mineral Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geological Engineering and Geomatics Engineering
Tarkwa University of Mines and Technology entry requirements
For you to be able to qualify for any of the programs offered at University of Mines and Technology you will have to ensure you have the prerequisite entry requirements. The question you will now be asking is, what are the requirements you would need? You will first need to ensure that you have attained the required cut off points for University of Mines and Technology courses offered.
If you do not reach the required minimum cut off points but have attained the minimum entry points(36) you will be eligible to apply and even if you apply. You should note that if this is the case then your application would have gone to waste if you do not have a reliable sponsor who will pay the fees for the whole duration of study. However, let us say you have a higher cut off point than the one that is required for the course you wish to pursue, what do you do then? The answer is go ahead and apply! Chances are high for you to get accepted.
However, it is not only the cut off points that are important. There are some other courses that come with extra requirements in addition to the cut off points. For example, if you wish to pursue any course that is under the Mineral Resources Technology faculty there are extra requirements;
- You will be required to have passed with a credit in Integrated Science, English and Mathematics which are core subjects in the courses under that faculty.
- The candidate should also have undertaken Physics,Elective Mathematics and Chemistry.
- There is also a minimum aggregate to have been scored by the student; A WASSCE candidate should have a minimum aggregate of 36 and a SSSCE a minimum aggregate of 24.
For someone who wishes to undertake the diploma programme the requirements are;
- 5 passes in the GCE subjects under 'O' levels(the subjects will include English Language, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.
- For those who did GCE, they need passes in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
For the mature person out there(25 years and above), you still have a shot at being admitted. You should have, however, passed in your SSSC or GCE 'O' level and have 5 credits including credits in Science, Mathematics and English language.
Postgraduate applicants will also need qualifications with the most notable one being that you have to have at least a second class upper division to apply for a Masters in Science and a Masters in Philosophy.
With all this in mind, be sure to first consult with the university before you undertake to apply for any course. After that, you will know of your eligibility and proceed to request for the University of Mines and Technology admission forms for you to fill. After you have done that, wait for the University of Mines and Technology admission list to see if you have been accepted and you now start your journey to become one of Ghana's professionals.
