Pastors need bodyguards; we are not superhuman – Owusu Bempah

- Rev. Owusu Bempah has reacted to concerns raised about the need for pastors to have security men

- According to him, even Jesus has 12 disciples who acted as bodyguards

- He added that securitymen protect the man of God from all kinds of dangers

The Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, has justified the need for men of God to have bodyguards.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, he stated that pastors are exposed to a number of dangers in the course of their work.

This, he said, necessitated the presence of security men to ensure that the pastor is protected from harm.

Rev. Owusu Bempah’s comments were in relation to comments from the cross-section of Ghanaians who questioned the rationale behind the use of security men by pastors.

The trending argument was that, as men of God, the pastors need not fear anything, as God will protect them.

He however countered by saying that such arguments are borne out of ignorance. He explained that, Jesus Christ, whom they look up to, when he was alive, was surrounded by bodyguards, who were his disciples.

The outspoken prophet noted that Jesus’ 12 disciples, who followed him everywhere were fully armed.

“Peter took a sword and cut-off somebody’s ear and Jesus told him to sheath his sword meaning that as they were following Jesus they were armed” he observed.

Citing himself as an example, Rev. Owusu Bempah said his bodyguards have foiled several attempts on his life especially during the 2016 electioneering campaign.

He said as followers of Christ, the pastors are just taking a cue from what Jesus did by protecting themselves both physically and spiritually.
