- Kwesi Pratt says he has reason to doubt that Mensa Otabil is telling the truth with regards to Capital Bank
- Otabil on his part has said that his role at Capital Bank was in non-executive capacity
Editor-in-chief of The Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has expressed doubt over the excuse of Rev Mensa Otabil with regards to the collapse of Capital Bank. The religious leader was the board chairman of the now defunct bank.
Rev Mensa Otabil claims that while he was the board chairman of the bank, his position was only nominal and lacking of any executive meaning. He was responding to nationwide criticism aimed at him in the wake of investigations revealing he might have been culpable.
But Pratt has claimed that sources with knowledge of the issue have told him in confidence that Otabil was in the know on everything. Pratt says that information available to him indicates that as board chairman, Otabil knew everything concerning the bank.
On a show on Accra-based Peace FM monitored by Mynewsgh.com, Kwesi Pratt tried to punch holes in the statement issued by Otabil on Tuesday. Pratt said it was hard to think of a board chairman in a non-executive capacity.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 14th August, 2018, the leader and founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) said his “position was a non-executive role.
Investigations are officially being carried by the Bank of Ghana into the collapse of multiple Ghanaian owned-banks. For this reason, the recent statement from Rev Otabil is obviously not the last we will hear from him.
