- Five vehicles allegedly belonging to the MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, have been seized by EOCO
- Investigations show that the MP employed corrupt practices in importing them into Ghana
The Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO) has taken possession of five vehicles belonging to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga.
According to a report by MyNewsGH.com, the vehicles with registration numbers GR 2220-18, GR 2221-18, GR 2222-18, GT 2243(sic)-17 and GT 4054-13 are currently parked at EOCO.
The MP is meanwhile under investigations for using corrupt means to import the vehicles into Ghana.
YEN.com.gh understands that he used a Parliamentary Resolution April 7, 2017, relating to a facility worth US$22,500 between the Parliamentary Service and the Societe Generale Bank (Ghana).
This was for the purchase of one brand new official vehicle for each of the 275 Members of Parliament.
The Special Prosecutor, Martin A.B.K Amidu, who first dropped hints about the matter, claimed his efforts at investigating the matter are being frustrated.
He revealed that Mahama Ayariga is using chiefs and opinion leaders to plead on his behalf.
Officials of EOCO have declined comment on the matter, except to say they are still looking into the matter.
Meanwhile, Amidu has vowed to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion and subsequently, lodged an official complaint with EOCO to take up the matter.
