Comparing Daddy Lumba and Kojo Antwi on who makes the best love songs

On their own, it will be near impossible to say that another Ghanaian highlife musician has been better than Kojo Antwi or Daddy Lumba in the last 30 years.

The task proves more difficult to compare who is better of the two. So we narrowed it down to love songs. compares three top love songs of either artiste in order to arrive at who makes the best love songs:

1. Antwi's 'Akono Ba' vs Lumba's '1-1-1-6-6-6'

Either song has proven to be a classic over the last two decades. Akono Ba is obviously the much older song coming over 10 years before 1-1-1.

In Akono Ba, Antwi wants to connect with the listener on how lovers would love to have their own offsprings. However, in Daddy Lumba's classic, he is singing of a more sensual and romantic dimension of love.

2. Antwi's 'Medofo Pa' vs Lumba's 'Medo W'asem'

This match-up is a bit more difficult than the first. The two songs are some of the most easily recognisable songs from either musician.

Medofo Pa won plaudits for the simplicity in lyrics and amazing instrumentals. Antwi sings of how he wrote the song specifically for a lover in this one.

Lumba's Medo W'asem is a song that is 17 years and still counted as a romantic classic. This song captures how very mundane things could lead someone to love.

3. Kojo Antwi's 'Me Nya Ntaban' vs Daddy Lumba's 'Enye Eduro' (Eye odo nkoaa)

Both of these songs were released about the same period. The fact that they are both thought to be masterpieces in composition means that Antwi and Lumba really brought their best to bear.

In Me Nya Ntaban, Kojo Antwi sings of how he wishes for a love that moves further from his reach. He thus prays for wings to fly to his desire.

In Lumba's song, he praises love despite the rumours that he may have been bewitched.
