Akufo-Addo ‘disgraces’ Bawumia at Jubilee House public event

- A video has emerged online showing President Akufo-Addo walk past his vice president, literally ignoring his handshake

- Social media users have since been talking, with many speculating bad blood

The Ghanaian social media space has been filled with divided opinions following the emergence of a video in which President Akufo-Addo appeared to have snubbed a handshake from his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In the 15-second video sighted on Facebook which has since gone viral, shows the President walk past Dr. Bawumia who was anticipating a handshake but was left hanging as Akufo-Addo did not even notice him.

The incident happened when some 1,350 businesses, from all 10 regions of the country who are first beneficiaries of the Presidential Business Support Programme, converged at the Jubilee House on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Business Development is expected to offer continuous training and capacity building, mentorship and business advisory services, free accounting services, access to business networking opportunities and seed capital ranging from GH¢10,000 to GH¢100,000, to each of the beneficiaries.

President Akufo-Addo noted that there is the need to encourage high levels of investment in entrepreneur development if Ghana’s economy is to grow at the required rate.

However, in spite of the event’s purpose being clear, it was the President’s snub of a handshake from Dr. Bawumia that has since made the headlines.

Some communicators of the NPP have, however, dispelled any rumors of a rift between the President and his vice, describing the snub as a “protocol mishap.
