- Luka Modric reveals he asked for a move to join Inter Milan
- The Croatian midfielder has been linked to join the Serie A side
- The Real Madrid midfielder has a year left on his contract
Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has made the revelation that it was he who contacted Inter Milan over a potential transfer - not the Italians.
The current European champions have reported the Nerazzurri to FIFA over an illegal approach for their mercurial Croatian midfielder.
With Modric's fellow countrymen including Ivan Perisic, Sime Vrsaljko and Marcelo Brozovic already in Milan, is keen to join them for a new challenge.
After four Champions League titles and Cristiano Ronaldo's departure, the former Tottenham star has lifted the lid on the rumours.
According to Italian news media outlet, Gazzetta dello Sport, Modric has communicated with FIFA that it was he who made the approach, attracted to play with the Croatian contingent at the San Siro.
FIFA will likely drop the request of Los Blancos that Inter violated Article 18 of their transfer regulations over an illegal approach, with this revelation.
It will be quite the embarrassment for the Galaticos, who despite retaining the player for the forthcoming season, seem to have him unsettled in their hands.
Madrid risk losing out on a sizeable fee for the player, with one year remaining on his contract from next summer.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Champions League campaigners Inter Milan have reportedly launched a bid to sign Real Madrid midfield ace Luka Modric this summer.
The Galacticos have already lost their goal machine Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus in a mega deal after spending nine years at the Santiago Bernabeu.
