The post-Cristiano Ronaldo era at Real Madrid was greeted by a half-empty Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, as Blancos recorded their worst home crowd attendance in a decade.
A total of 48, 266 people attended the first home game of the season in what was seemingly anticipated to be a game that would at least fill most of the 81, 044 capacity stadium.

According to Goal, the last time Bernabeu witnessed such a slow start to the season was back in 2008-09 season when former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola dismantled them 6-2
Interestingly, it was in the very same season that Madrid dared to break the world transfer record by bringing in Ronaldo from Manchester United following a five-game losing streak.
With no suitable replacement to satiate the appetite of Madrid fans still mourning the loss of their iconic five-time Ballon d'Or winner, Bernabeu seems to have lost its mojo.

However, a late kick-off was also partially to blame for the abysmal attendance with many young Madridistas unable to turn up for the showdown
Fortunately for Blancos, Gareth Bale and Dani Carvajal rose up to the occasion and kick-started their La Liga campaign on a winning note.

The duo slotted home two goals against Getafe giving Julen Lopetegui a confident start to his tenure as Madrid boss.
