The Acting Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adomako Baafi, has dismissed reports that the Former Minister of Gender and Social Protection, Otiko Djaba, has rejected a new role as Ghana’s ambassador to Italy.
Speaking with Joy News, Baafi stated that Otiko Djaba is yet to officially communicate her decision to the presidency.
He went on to say that the NPP has also not been officially informed of her decision, which she allegedly communicated to the media.
“…it has not been officially communicated to the government so everything you are asking me is based on the media report,” he said when queried about the matter.
Otiko Djaba is reported to have revealed in an interview with Daily Graphic, that she intends to turn down her new role as an ambassador.
According to her, she wishes to spend more time with her ailing ex-husband, who is suffering from stroke. She allegedly went on to say that she wishes to also be with her family.
Until the recent reshuffling of ministers by the President, Ms. Djaba was the Gender and Social Protection Minister.
Before joining the Akufo-Addo's government in February 2017, Otiko Djaba was the NPP’s National Women's Organiser.
