- The Asantehene will make a historic visit to Akyem Abuakwa to see the Okyenhene
- This visit is seen as a continuation of the new found amity between the two kingdoms
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will visit Kyebi on Thursday, August 24, 2018. The visit is of historic significance as it will be a rare sight of an Asantehene in the land of a people considered as tribal enemies.
The long perceived enmity between the people of Akyem and Asante dates back to pre-colonial times in Ghana. But this was brought to a seeming end when the Asantehene and the monarch of the Akyem, Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, played together at a Royal Golf Tourney.
According to Kasapamfmonline.com, the Asante monarch is a guest of honour at a durbar being hosted by Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin to climax the 75th Anniversary of the late King of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Nana Sir Ofori Atta.
The 75th Anniversary of Nana Sir Ofori-Atta’s life is organized by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It is on the theme “Relaunch of Akyem Abuakwa: 1700-1943 from Ofori Panin to Sir Ofori-Atta”.
The month long celebration of Nana Sir Ofori-Atta, described as the founder of modern-day Akyem Abuakwa, has been marked by many activities including memorial lecture and exhibition.
Other events include the dedication of a High Court Complex in honour of Nana Sir Ofori-Atta, a football match, gospel and highlife rock shows, among others.
