Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed Sir Alex Ferguson gave him a hairdryer for over doing too many step-overs in his early years at Manchester United.

The Portugal international is arguably the brightest gem of them all polished by Sir Alex, who was manager at Old Trafford for 26 years.

After making a summer switch from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 and inheriting David Beckham's No7 shirt at the age of 18, Ronaldo was certainly a rough diamond.

But Fergie polished him into a brilliant player winning the Ballon d'Or and Champions League with United, as CR7 scored a sensational 42 goals in the 2007-08 season.

He told Dazn: "Of course in the beginning of my career he was so important to me because I moved from Sporting to Manchester and had that Portuguese mentality.

"Too many step-overs, decision making was not the best.

"He taught me how to do it. In the Premier League, they don't fall over so easy, they are tough.

"As I've said many times, he taught me everything. He was like a father to me. He helped me a lot at Manchester United."

Ronaldo made his first competitive start for Juventus in their 3-2 win at Chievo and the Old Lady face Lazio on Saturday.

The 33-year-old certainly did learn to forget the step-overs as well, becoming more direct over time.

And he has scored 450 goals for Real Madrid, smashing the goalscoring record for Los Blancos in a his nine-year spell at the Bernabeu.

But he admitted leaving the club was an easy decision despite winning three consecutive Champions League title on the bounce.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner added: "I never expected to play in this team, but some things happen naturally, for me it was an easy decision.

"What was done in Madrid was incredible, I won everything, my family lives there, but it's part of the past.

Meanwhile, had earlier reported that Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted the reason he has joined the Turin club is to win the Champions League, whether that's 'this year, next year or the year after that.'

The 33-year-old star who won four Champions League titles with Real Madrid joined Juventus in a £100million transfer this summer.
