- A statement containing names of MPs who have expressed support for John Mahama's bid to become president of Ghana has leaked online
- There are 94 names in the list, all of who are members of the NDC
- There are 106 NDC MPs in Parliament
Soon after Former President John Mahama declared his willingness to partake in the contest to select the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), 94 Members of Parliament (MPs) have declared their support for his bid.
The MPs, in a statement making rounds on the internet, expressed "profound gratitude to His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama for hearkening to the cries of our constituents which we presented to him when we met him four (4) months ago.”
They have therefore promised to support the former President "with their expertise, knowledge and personal resources".
Reports of these MPs who were in favour of John Mahama emerged in July 2018, however, the list never came out.
According the statement, the MPs were excited by Mahama’s announcement, which was per consultations with various members of party.
It went on to say that the 94 MPs were part of a wider group of 106 MPs, all of whom were affiliated with the NDC.
They added that their support stems from their own volition and free will, and as such they are ready to contribute their time, expertise and personal resources to campaign for Mahama.
Citing issues such as “cronyism, nepotism, wanton corruption, super incompetence, reckless acts of violence…”, they expressed their conviction that a Mahama-led NDC will present a credible alternative to the current government.
Some of the MP listed in statement were Hon. Fiifi Fiavi Franklin Kwetey (MP, Ketu-South), Hon. Inusah Abdulai Fuseini (MP, Tamale-Central), Hon. Magnus Kofi Amoatey (MP, Yilo Krobo), Hon. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine (MP, Bolgatanga-East) and Hon. Joseph Yieleh Chireh (MP, Wa-West)
