Gunners boss Emery bags first Arsenal win, denies fallout with absent Ozil

Arsenal manager Unai Emery claimed his first Premier League victory against West Ham after goals from Nacho Monreal, Danny Welbeck and an own goal by Issa Diop, earned them a 3-1 win.

However, it was the Hammers that drew first blood in the London Derby after Marko Arnautovic put his side ahead, midway through the first half with a driven low shot into the corner.

Spanish defender Nacho Monreal drew Arsenal level when he finished powerfully at the back post, Arsenal then took the lead with 20 minutes to play after some horrible defending from Diop.

Welbeck then wrapped things up in stoppage time to make sure maximum points were secured.

The Gunners boss denied rumours of a training ground rift with Mesut Ozil after he was surprisingly absent from the squad.

When asked about Ozil's omission, and if it was due to a training ground argument, Emery denied the claims and said that Ozil was unwell.

Emery said he had discussed the situation with the German and they had both concluded it would be best for him to sit out the fixture because he was unwell.

"Today he was here, I told him to come in if he feels better and he feels better today and before the match he was with the team," Emery said.

Although it was far from a vintage performance, the result saw Emery pick up his first three points as manager, although admits there are things to improve upon.
