- Jorginho signed for Blues from Napoli during the summer transfer window
- He has been impressive under Maurizio Sarri since his move
- The midfielder played a pivotal part in Chelsea's 2-1 win over Newcastle United
Chelsea new summer signing, Jorginho, on Sunday, August 26 continued his impressive start for the Blues in his third Premier League appearance for the club against Newcastle United.
The midfielder set an incredible record for Chelsea during the match even as the west London side fought hard to secure a 2-1 victory over Rafa Benitez men.
Jorginho completed 27 more passes than the whole Newcastle side and edged closer to setting a new record for the most passes completed in a single Premier League game.
According to OptaJoe, Jorginho completed 86 passes, six less out of a possible 92 in the first half (93.5%), 19 more than the whole Newcastle side combined (67).
The Italian international is now third in Premier League history to complete more passes than any other player after Manchester City duo of Ilkay Gundogan ( 167 vs Chelsea) and Fernandinho (164 vs Everton).
Cesc Fabregas, who is currently injured, was the Blues' previous pass master, having completed 144 passes against West Brom four years ago.
Jorginho signed for Chelsea during the summer transfer window, following Maurizio Sarri to the Stamford Bridge outfit from Napoli for a reported fee of £57 million.
The 26-year old has now emerged as an integral figure in Sarri's team set up, fitting perfectly into the tactician's style of play.
