- Ramos and Messi have now scored in 14 successful La Liga seasons
- The Real Madrid captain converted a penalty kick against Girona
- Julen Lopetegui's side recorded a 4-1 victory and their second win
Sergio Ramos scored in Real Madrid's comeback victory as Los Blancos came from behind to beat Girona 4-1 on Sunday evening.
The 32-year-old scored a 39th-minute penalty after the Catalan side had taken a surprise lead through Borja Garcia.
With the likes of Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale on the pitch, it was something of a surprise to see the Madrid captain step up to take the kick.
But as it turns out, Ramos had a very valid reason for taking the spot-kick despite the serious nature of the game.
Ramos had managed to score a goal in each of his previous 13 La Liga seasons since making his debut, incredibly as a defender.
Desperate to keep the streak alive, the Spanish captain stepped up and calmly converted the spot-kick to not only keep Real alive in the game, but his streak too.
Real were awarded another penalty later in the game, and Ramos did not take it - almost to prove a point.
Benzema took the penalty instead, and found the back of the net in the first of his two strikes on the night - with Bale also on the score-sheet.
Amazingly, only one other player has managed to score in 14 straight La Liga campaigns is Barcelona's charismatic Lionel Messi.
While Messi has scored 384 times in that run since 2005-06, Ramos has on the other hand managed "only" 54, which is still mightily impressive given his position as a center-back.
