- Former president Mahama rode a motorcycle in town
- The move by the former president follows his announcement to contest the 2020 elections
Just days after announcing his presidential ambition, former president, John Dramani Mahama has been spotted in town riding a motorbike.
It is not clear where John Mahama was headed but it tends to mean his action was purely a subtle political move to announce his presence in town.
This is not the first time Mahama has rode a motorbike. In fact, he did same in June 2016 when he was president of Ghana.
It is not surprising that the president can ride a motorcycle, as he hails from Bole-Bamboi in the Northern Region.
Motorcycles are a popular means of transportation in the northern regions of Ghana and are owned by a lot of people, including women.
Mahama and 2020 elections
Already, all ten regional party chairmen of the NDC have endorsed Mahama and also advised him to lead the party. In a draft letter, all chairmen signed in approval of John Mahama being the next flag bearer of the NDC yet again.
The former president, John Mahama, has paid a courtesy call on the founder of the NDC, Jerry John Rawlings.
This move can be seen by all as a very strategic one if indeed the former one-term president is poised to contest elections yet again in the 2020 elections.
It is no secret that Jerry Rawlings has been the fulcrum upon which several elections are positioned hence the strategy by Mahama to pay a courtesy call on him.
Already, Jerry Rawlings has had his take on the politics of the NDC as he attributed their defeat in 2016 to greed and corruption. There have been various pictures of an obvious rift between the former president and some key officials of the party.
Looking at the entire composure of John Mahama, it is clear he has gained the support from Jerry Rawlings and thus eager to win the hearts of Ghanaians.
