Vardy, Cahill announce international retirements after World Cup performance

- Jamie Vardy and Gary Cahill have confirmed their retirement from international football

- The Leicester City star is willing to come out of retirement on a special occasion

- Chelsea defender on the other hand is not willing to return to the Three Lions on any circumstance

England and Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has announced his retirement from international football after representing his country at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The 31-year-old made four appearances for the Three Lions in Russia but failed to find the back of the net in all the matches he featured.

He said he wants to focus on his club career but will be willing to come out of retirement to play for Gareth Southgate's side at exceptional situation.

Vardy got his 2018-19 Premier League campaign off to a good start after scoring Leicester's only goal in Manchester United defeat at Old Trafford on opening day.

"Jamie Vardy has told Gareth Southgate he wants to focus on his club career but is willing to play for England in exceptional circumstances." Sky Sports reported.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has also followed the foot steps of his national teammate foot steps as he confirmed he has played his last game for England.


The 32-year-old featured for the fourth best team at the World Cup in Russia, but unlike Vardy, he doesn't plan to return to the team under any circumstances.

"Gary Cahill has also effectively retired from international football, telling Gareth Southgate he does not intend to return to the England fold."

He joined Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers in 2012 and has scored 13 times in 189 appearances for the FA Cup champions. previously reported that England defender Gary Cahill revealed he will dump international football after Russia 2018.

The Chelsea star was included in Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad as he dreams of making his 62nd appearance for the Three Lions.
