Man United players believe Jose Mourinho's future hangs on Burnley clash

- Red Devils' boss Mourinho risks being sacked should his side lose to Burnley on Sunday

- United will hope to get their title chase back on track to winning ways when they travel to the Turf Moor this weekend

- They were handed a disappointing defeat at the Theater of Dreams earlier this week as the Portuguese tactician is under pressure to deliver

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is under immense pressure to return to winning ways following his side's disappointing defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford over the weekend.

Goals from Lucas Moura and Harry Kane put the Red Devils to the sword in front of their home fans on Monday night.

According to stats, the defeat was United's heaviest home defeat since 2004, and some of the club's players believe the Portuguese tactician might be shown the exit door if he fails to get the result against Burnley this weekend.

After suffering their second defeat to the start of the 2018-19 EPL season, both Mourinho and United chief Ed Woodward had a meeting over the performance of the team.

And it was assume that sacking the former Chelsea and Real Madrid handler was part of the agenda of the meeting if the poor run of results continue.

Man United tasted their first defeat of the season at Brighton & Hove Albion before being hammered by Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs.

Daily mail reports that the days of Jose Mourinho at the Threatre of Dream might be counting down already as the players are now talking about the possibility of Zinedine Zidane becoming the new manager.

"They are saying Jose will be gone soon," a source told Sportsmail on Tuesday night.

"Some think he’ll be out if they lose at Burnley. Others can’t see him lasting beyond September.

"We’ve seen this before and it just feels the same. The club will say it’s supporting Jose but we all saw what happened with Louis. The players are already talking about the possibility of Zidane coming in."

Reports coming from the Red Devils camp claims that the club has thrown their weight behind their manager earlier this week, while his chances of walking away from a £15million-a-year contract are slim.

Woodward is not willing to make a third change in less than four-and-a-half years but will come under enormous pressure if United suffer a third straight defeat on Sunday.

Mourinho continued to show the strain after Monday’s 3-0 loss to Spurs at Old Trafford when he walked out of his post-match press conference after demanding respect for having won three titles with Chelsea.

United fans are said to have paid for a plane to fly a banner over Turf Moor on Sunday calling for the executive vice-chairman’s head.

However, if the Red Devils lose against Burnley this weekend, he might be asked to leave for a new manager to take over.

David De Gea on Tuesday evening tweeted a picture of the squad linking arms prior to a match with the tagline: 'United now more than ever'.

Although Mourinho was unhappy at the lack of signings this summer, his inability to get the best out of the players already at the club has caused concern among the United hierarchy.

NAIJ.com previously reported that Tottenham Hotspur handed Manchester United their heaviest home defeat since 2004 in all competition in their Premier League encounter.

Lucas Moura's brace and a Harry Kane stunner ensured the Spurs maintained their 100% win run to the start of the 2018-19 season.

The Red Devils are now 13th on the English topflight table after the disappointing defeat to the Lilywhites at Old Trafford.
