- Family of the late Kofi Annan has paid a courtesy call on John Mahama
- The visit saw Mahama take photos with some key NDC officials suspected to be on his team ahead of the 2020 elections
The former president, John Dramani Mahama, received the family of the late former secretary general of the United Nations (UN), Kofi Annan.
The purpose of the family visit was to officially announce to him the passing and funeral arrangement of the late Kofi Annan.
Taking to his Facebook page to comment on the visit, Maham shared fond memories of the former statesman.
"As President, I worked with the late Kofi Annan on several projects, the last being a couple of trips in and out of Geneva when he personally decided to help with the mediation of the maritime dispute between Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire," Mahama wrote.
Meanwhile, the visit by the family of the late Kofi Annan exposed some truths about the NDC officials willing to do everything in their right to secure victory for John Dramani Mahama in the next elections in 2020.
They included Hanna Tetteh - former minister for foreign affairs, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang - former minister for education, Marietta Brew Oppong - former attorney general and Bawa Motgari.
The death of former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, sent shock waves to the entire world as tributes have poured in massively.
President of the republic, Nana Akufo-Addo, paid tribute to him after his passing in Switzerland. Akufo Addo described Kofi Annan as one of Ghana's greatest compatriots, has directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the president.
Kofi Annan is respected across the world as the force of peace and reconciliation. Kofi Atta Annan was a Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 1997 to December 2006. Annan and the UN were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize.
Mahama's journey to 2020 elections
Already, all 10 regional party chairmen of the NDC have endorsed Mahama and also advised him to lead the party. In a draft letter, all chairmen signed in approval of John Mahama being the next flag bearer of the NDC yet again.
The former president, John Mahama, has paid a courtesy call on the founder of the NDC, Jerry John Rawlings.
This move can be seen by all as a very strategic one if indeed the former one-term president is poised to contest elections yet again in the 2020 elections. It is no secret that Jerry Rawlings has been the fulcrum upon which several elections are positioned hence the strategy by Mahama to pay a courtesy call on him.
Already, Jerry Rawlings has had his take on the politics of the NDC as he attributed their defeat in 2016 to greed and corruption. There have been various pictures of an obvious rift between the former president and some key officials of the party.
Looking at the entire composure of John Mahama, it is clear he has gained the support from Jerry Rawlings and thus eager to win the hearts of Ghanaians.
