Body of late Kofi Annan arrives in Ghana on September 10

- The body of Kofi Annan will touch down in Accra on September 10

- Kofi Annan's state burial will see top officials of the United Nations (UN) also attend

The corpse of former the late Kofi Annan is expected to arrive in Accra on Monday, September 10, 2018, for an official state burial.

The solemn arrival of his corpse will see his widow, Nane Maria Annan, children and some executives of the United Nations(UN) accompany him.

Information minister-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, confirmed this to reporters in Accra.

According to him, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will together receive the body of Kofi Annan on behalf of the people of Ghana.

The death of former UN Secretary of State, Kofi Annan, sent shock waves to the entire world as tributes have poured in massively. President of the republic, Nana Akufo-Addo, paid tribute to him after his passing in Switzerland.

Akufo-Addo described Kofi Annan as one of Ghana's greatest compatriots and has directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the former UN Secretary-General.

Kofi Annan is respected across the world as the force of peace and reconciliation. Kofi Atta Annan was a Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 1997 to December 2006.

Annan and the UN were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize.

Earlier, the former president, John Dramani Mahama, received the family of the late former secretary general of the United Nations (UN) - Kofi Annan.

The purpose of the family visit was to officially announce to him the passing and funeral arrangement of the late Kofi Annan. Taking to his Facebook page to comment on the visit, Maham shared fond memories of the former statesman.
