If you are looking to gain proficiency in non-Ghanaian languages, the Ghana Institute of Languages is the institution that you need to be looking for. GIL was established in 1961 by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who was the first president of this country. The mission was to enhance the unity of Africa and to create solidarity across the universe by teaching languages that are not known in Ghana. After its foundation, the office of the President controlled it. Today, however, this institution is under the control of Ministry of Education and the National Council for Tertiary Education is given the duty of overseeing how it functions. This is one of the best institutions in Ghana that offer courses in modern languages. It has been given a mandate by the government to contribute towards language policies in the country.
