- Danny Drinkwater is being tracked by Leicester City and Southampton
- The 28-year-old midfielder has failed to find form since his £35m switch to Chelsea
- Drinkwater has made only 1-cap this season after a subs appearance in the Community Shield
England and Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater is on the radar of former club Leicester City in the forthcoming winter transfer window in January.
According to a UK Sun report citing sources at The Express, Southampton are also in the race to sign Drinkwater, who has struggled to find form at West London since his £35million switch from the Foxes last season.
The report noted that the Foxes are keen to resign the 28-year-old midfielder in a January loan deal.
Drinkwater, who won the title with Leicester in 2016, has started just five Premier League games since his move.
In the current campsign, Drinkwater’s only contribution this term after four Premier League games was coming in as a sub against City during Chelsea’s defeat in the Community Shield.
At the moment, the additions of the trio of Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, seems to have further made it more difficult for Drinkwater to challenge for a starter’s shirt.
Leicester held talks with Chelsea over a possible move in the summer but the deal did not see the light of the day.
On the other hand, West Ham were reportedly interested in a move for Drinkwater, before opting to sign former Arsenal ace Jack Wilshere.
Last weekend, Drinkwater was again not considered good enough in Chelsea squad that defeated Bournemouth and will likely be plotting his next line of action after failing to shine at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is reportedly keen to offload midfielder Danny Drinkwater out of the Premier League.
According to a UK Sun report citing sources at The Daily Star, Blues Italian manager Sarri has “has signalled he is happy for the England international to leave before the European transfer window closes at the end of the month.”
At the moment Chelsea’s midfielders include Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Cesc Fabregas, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek alongside the 28-year-old Drinkwater.
