- Canadian High Commission in Ghana says reports that Canada is running a visa lottery are false
- High Commission has urged Ghanaians not to be victims of this scam
The Canadian High Commission in Ghana has denied reports circulating that Canada is running a visa lottery.
In recent weeks, reports have been circulating on social media announcing that the Canadian government has opened up its visa lottery programme.
However, the Canadian High Commission has refuted such report, describing any post of the sort as false.
In a statement posted on Twitter, the High Commission warned Ghanaians to be careful so as not to fall victim to scammers.
“…don't be a victim of false info online: Canada does not have a visa lottery,” sections of the statement read.
The statement added that persons looking to travel to Canada should seek details on the official Canadian government website (http://Canada.ca/immigration).
''Make sure you get your immigration information from the official government of Canada website at http://Canada.ca/immigration. Learn more about online scams: https://goo.gl/w2niZH.''
The High Commission further urged the general public to ignore any report suggesting Canada is running a visa lottery.
Meanwhile, the United States of America (USA) remains the only country that runs a visa lottery, allowing winners to travel to the US.
