- Sarkodie has opened up on the trending issue of some Ghanaian artistes who were snubbed in Nigeria
- The singer recounted how he also suffered the same fate in the foreign country
- Not too long ago, it was reported that some Zylofon Media signees were treated 'coldly' in Nigeria
Ghanaian artiste, Sarkodie, known in real life as Michael Owusu Addo, has revealed that his early experiences in Nigeria were worse when compared to that of the recent treatment meted out to Zylofon Media stars Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.
Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Accra-based Hitz FM Monday morning, the 'Can't Let You Go' singer indicated that he almost gave up on trying to impress fans in Nigeria because he first visits to the country were not encouraging.
“For my first 2, 3 times, I nearly said I will not go to Nigeria again. They are like that, even what you guys saw (during the official launch of Menzgold in Nigeria) was good,” Sarkodie explained to show host Andy Dosty.
The award-winning rapper added that he “nearly” decided not to go to the country again following the terrible experiences he had.
However, with time, the BET Award winner has come to be accepted by the Nigerians and he has managed to be ranked among the continent's best artistes.
Sarkodie went on to give a suggestion on how the gap between artistes performing in other countries could be breached to reduce the 'embarassment'.
“If your song is played once, it doesn’t mean the people will know it, but if it’s been rotated, that’s when the people will know it so they don’t do that, in their clubs, on the TV and radio,” the singer noted.
It would be recalled that on August 24, 2018, Stonebwoy, Stonebwoy and a host of other Ghanaian artistes experienced what many refer to as a poor reception from some Nigerians.
The audience at a concert to launch the office of Zylofon Media and MenzGold in the country appeared indifferent during performances by the Zylofon Music artistes.
Some people argued that it was how the atmosphere during the launch was but that assertion has been debunked since the patron at the concert came alive during performances from Nigerian acts.
Sarkodie and his long-time girlfriend, Tracy Sarkcess, took the whole country by storm as they announced their marriage.
The wedding which was held at a private venue on July 21, saw attendance from many Ghanaian as well as Nigerian celebrities.
