- Beitar Jerusalem is one of the big football sides in Israel
- However, after changing their name to include "Trump", they have not won a game
In Israel's top flight football league, there is a team called Beitar Trump Jerusalem. The club's original name, Beitar Jerusalem, was changed due to US President Donald Trump's decision to move the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
The football club was established in 1936. Beitar Jerusalem is a club whose fans actually celebrate their clubs unwillingness to sign Muslim and more particularly Arab footballers.
Obviously, as a result of the politics in their part of the world, the club and its fans were happy to see the US embassy in Jerusalem. But things are not going well for the club since their name change.
Since the announcement of the name change in May, Beitar have not won an official game. They have been knocked out of the Europa League for instance, by a small Georgian club.
According to the internationally acclaimed sports result app SofaScore, the club has not won a game in 14 matches since they put "Trump" in their name. They have been only fortunate to draw five out of those 14 games.
This fall of Beitar is very hard to understand. This is especially surprising if one considers that apart from Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Beer Sheva, Beitar have been one of the best in Israel over the last five years.
It might only be out of coincidence that Beitar is enduring a terrible spell after giving themselves a new name. But for many people the connection is not hard to make.
