Former Saint-Etienne star William Gomis shot dead during gun battle in France

French League side Saint-Etienne have confirmed the death of former player 19-year-old defender William Gomis.

The France international was said to have been shot dead in a shooting that occured in La Seyne-sur-Mer, Cote d'Azur, on Sunday night.

According to SunSport, a 14-year-old boy was killed in a similar incident earlier, with police finding 24 Kalashnikov cases at the scene.

The Sun further revealed that Gomis had lost his brother from a gun shot wound a couple of weeks back.

William parted ways with his French League side this summer having spent five seasons at the club with just 18 appearances for their reserve team in the fifth tier.

The Ligue 1 side said in a statement: "AS Saint-Etienne had the immense sadness to learn of the tragic death of William Gomis, which occurred last night.

"The strong and slender defender contributed, during the 2017-2018 season, to the promotion of the reserve team to the National Championship 2.

"The club's leaders, coaches, players and employees are deeply affected by William's sudden death and offer their deepest sympathies to his family."

NAIJ.com earlier reported that former WCW wrestler Frank Andersson is dead.

The later wrestler died at the age of 62 after suffering a heart related ailment according to UK Sun citing Sport Bladet.

He was said to have been surrounded by family members and friends before his life support machine was turned off.

The report further revealed that the wrestler died from complications suffered during a heart surgery which eventually led to his passing on at the Stockholm-based Karolinska University Hospital.
