Crisis-hit TV station, TV Africa, has reportedly laid off about 50 of its staff according to report sighted by YEN.com.gh. The reason given is not a new one as the station is currently reeling under serious financial challenges.
Mynewsgh.com reports that acting Managing Director, Ekow Blankson signed a letter informing the unfortunate bunch of their fate. The letter said the station could not carry the cost of maintaining workers if it wanted to stay on air.
As a last resort, the workers had to leave for the company to maintain any little financial strength it is clinging on to. They will however be paid a month's salary for their troubles.
The letter is reportedly dated September 6, 2018. According to it, the laid-off individuals were instructed to are to see the human resource personnel of TV Africa to relieve themselves of all company business within a week.
A fortnight ago, it was reported that TV Africa were going to do limited broadcasting due to a hit in the finances. Flagship programmes have been suspended on the station at the moment.
The crisis of job losses in Ghana seems to have hit fever pitch with the banking sector being the worst hit. Media houses are also on the list of unfortunate establishments.
