YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the body of the late Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, arrived in Ghana on September 10, 2018.
Photos of the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo at the airport to welcome the late Ghanaian.
The photos were posted on the official Facebook page of the president as the government officially accepted the mortal remains of the former UN boss.
Photos showed wife and children of late Kofi Annan, receiving condolences from the Presidential party as they arrived in Ghana for the state burial.
Other state functionaries who were also spotted at the solemn ceremony included Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo, Speaker of Parliament, Aaron Mike Ocquaye, MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu and Chief of Staff Frema Opare.
Members of the diplomatic corps, the security services, traditional leaders and politicians were among those at the Airport.
Libation was poured by Nana Ansah II and Christian prayers were said by Rev. Fr. Major Adjei as the body touched down on Ghanaian soil.
There was a video of the coffin as military men conveyed it from the tarmac.
When news reached the country that the former United Nations Secreatry General had passed on, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ordered for all flags to fly at half mast and also declared some days of mourning.
Wife of the late Ghanaian, Nane Maria Annan, indicated that her late husband passed on peacefully in his sleep.
Many world leaders and renowned personalities took time to mourn the late Ghanaian for his contribution to world peace.
The late diplomat who will be buried in his native Ghana, died aged 80.
