The story of football stars are often related to the rags to riches tale - including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.

However, there are other stars who came from wealthy homes and still made it big in the round leather game.

Here are nine players who came from privileged backgrounds and still made it big in the sport.

1. Hugo Loris

The World Cup winner was named after one of the leaders of romantic literary movement Victor Hugo who wrote The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.

4. Andrea Pirlo

The ex-Juventus star's dad founded a steel company in Brescia in 1982.

Pirlo retains a stake in the family business, but is also a wine connoisseur and owns a vineyard near to where he grew up in the north of Italy.

5. Gianluca Vialli

The former Chelsea player and manager lives in castles with 60 rooms and has always been well off.

Vialli is the son of a self-made millionaire and grew up with his four siblings in the enormous and lavish Castello di Belgioioso in Cremona where he still holidays.

6. Will Hughes

The 23-year-old attended the super-posh Repton School in Derbyshire.

7. Robin Van Persie

Robin's dad, Bob, is a successful sculptor, while his mum, Jose Ras, is a painter and jewellery designer.

The 35-year-old was brought up by his father after his parents divorced.

Bierhoff's dad Dr Rolf Bierhoff is an energy company chief, who instilled work ethic into the former Germany striker.

9. Gerard Pique

Pique is no stranger to prosperity, the Barcelona defender is also the founder of Kosmos, a growing sports and media investment group.

The 31-year-old Spain international, who is in a long-term relationship with Colombian singer Shakira, was born into a wealthy family in Catalonia.
