The best players to have played under Guardiola and Mourinho

Quality is always a rare case and in football, that phenomenon is probably truer than the game itself. And so, unsurprisingly, the best of managers or coaches love to work with the best of footballer.

1. Samuel Eto'o

It is hard to argue to argue that Camerounian Samuel Eto'o is not the best to have played under both Guardiola and Mourinho. Maybe one can argue that he is not the most gifted player traded between the two coaches.

Eto'o won the Champions League with Guardiola and Mourinho. In either case, he was extremely instrumental to the success.

2. Arjen Robben

When Jose Mourinho coached Robben at Chelsea, the Dutch winger was a fresh-faced runner and dribbler looking to make it bigger than PSV Eindhoven. He won a league title in England.

But all of that seems like a long time ago. Arjen Robben has gone on to be one of the most loved and highly-rated players of the last two decades. His time with Guardiola at Bayern added to the glitz.

3. Kevin De Bruyne

Fans of Chelsea F.C. would probably never forgive Mourinho with regards to his impatience with Mohammed Salah. But we have a feeling it is the story of Kevin De Bruyne that will sting the most.

Mourinho felt the player was a lazy attacker and he was sold off to Wolfsburg. But Guardiola took over and Manchester City and signed.

The rest is the history we are witnessing.

4. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The player who certainly divides opinion the most on this list is former Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic. But from we have seen, it does not seem like the big man cares so much about people think.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic can score goals. Unfortunately, he did not see eye-to-eye with Guardiola but that does not take anything away from Ibra's greatness.

5. Cesc Fabregas

If we were compiling the most technically-gifted players of the last decade, we would still include the Spaniard Cesc Fabregas. He is one of the most brilliant passers and readers of the modern game.

Fabregas did not have a favourable relationship with Guardiola at Barcelona. But when he came back to England, and that time to Chelsea, he won a league title.

Both managers clearly still think highly of him.
