7 armed robbers in jail for terrorizing Afram Plains traders

- Police officials have arrested seven suspected armed robbers who have been terrorizing traders in the Afram Plains

- This follows the arrest of eight others a week ago for the same crimes

- The arrests come after complaints by residents and traders with regard to the robberies

A police operations team, led by Nkawkaw Divisional Crime Officer, DSP Daniel Azugu, have arrested seven suspected armed robbers in the Afram Plains in the Eastern Region.

The suspects have been identified as Mohammadu Aliu 20, Abubarkar Saddick 25, Gagli Ali 40, Osmanu Mohammadu 33, Osmanu Aliu 17, Jalo Ishaiku 58 and Umaro Sanda 25.

YEN.com.gh understands that the arrests follow an earlier in which eight suspects were picked up by the police.

These arrests come after persistent cries and demonstrations by residents and traders in the area, who have fallen victim to the activities of the robbers.

The regional police public relations officer (PRO), DSP Tetteh in an interview, said intelligence gathered indicated that suspects who were arrested at a hideout between the Sambour Barrier and Nkyenenkyene are part of the gang that have been robbing traders and commuters on the Kwahu Tafo – Adawso highway.

DSP Tetteh noted that, the seven suspected robbers are currently in police custody and will be arranged before court within the week.

He appealed to the public to volunteer information to enable them apprehended the other suspects on the run.
